Atom and RSS development effort lessons learned: How did experience square with expected benefits?

Developers choose various languages. And development efforts trudge forth. Certain goals are hoped for. But how did things actually play out?

It would be interesting to see: "How did the actual legacy of Atom and RSS compare with the expected payoffs; and what lessons might we glean from the actual results so we can better engage in development efforts."

9 versions of RSS, while Magpie forecasted a rather simple effort. It would be interesting to see a follow-up:

  • How did things unfold;

  • What were the successes and surprises;

  • The lessons learned; and

  • Apply the lessons to new areas, XML pipeline, and feed publishing.
    Maybe people like Joi Ito have already discussed in Berlin the "big picture" perspectives. 2003, and 2004. Idea Alliance: Here's something interesting.
