Bloglines: Suggestions to improve human-interface

Summary

It would be nice if the feedsubmission was incorporated into a single step, and all user-defined options were applied univerally.

  • One-step feed submission with details

Users need to have the option to create a simple method to both add a feed, and add detailed comments. The current method allows simply adding a feed, then requires user to go back to the edit column to add detailed information on content name.

A faster approach would be to give the users the option to tailor their "feed submission option" so they could add it all at once, if they wanted. Here is an example import. It would be good if you could combine this with the custom-options for a single-entry [Submit, feed title, display options].

Example: Need a "title create" when first make a Bloglines subscription, rather than require later steps to update.

Have the four types of options in the one-step:

  • Submit
  • Choices: Feed submission
  • Edit name: Feed Title
  • Preference: Apply the universal feed-options for all feeds
  • Benefit: This would ensure three windows are condensed to one. Also, if you let the user define the options of "what goes into a default setting," that would aid in tailoring the feed-submission process.

  • Import data option

Challenge Adding info: Takes 3x as long with Bloglines than bookmarks Edit option has multiple steps

Also, sometimes there are other methods of recording, storing, and gathering feed information.

Solution It would be nice if there was a seamless way to import data from other aggregators and bookmarks. Things that would be good to have in an "Auto conversion tool from external bookmark, to internal with cut/paste":

    - XML feed URI
    - Feed Name
    - Notes
    - Default settings
  • Options selected not integrated into feed updates

One redundancy that does not execute well are the "options" to tailor the feeds. Users can choose from various options, but they are not necessarily imported to the feed-submissions.

Users could more quickly add feeds if this "default information" was associated with each feed-addition. Defaults allowed but do not integrate with the feed submission information.

  • Example option to have universal default

One example of this "universal default" would be the ability to change the public-private access. Rather than have to select each blog each time, would be nice if there was the option to have a universal default to x-option, if the users want to choose this. Would save time uploading new subscription-feeds.

Wish: Fast way to mark all feeds as private; how quickly change all feeds to private?

  • Associated information located next to message

One plus for development is when they provide details in a link.

Example: In Options ...What is: "Monitored By Bloglines Notifier:" [Need note by, with explanation] to answer: Where will bloglines notifier go; link quickly change e-mail right there?
  • Confirmation message when editing

Nice if a confirmation message on "Edit Subscription" [Who can see it]

  • Note size

Note: The notes box has 248 Max characters. How was this selected; and have you explored the impact of increasing the size of this box from 248 characters to something else?

  • Turning off notice messages

I want to turn off "recommended feeds" and message:

"Based on your current subscriptions, Bloglines has generated this list of feeds that you might be interested in. This list is updated daily."
I would like the option to "turn it off when I see it," not hunt around for a "turn off switch." Please include a "turn off switch" when the message is provided.
