Have you been unable to connect to the internet at a critical time?

Ref Rick Strahl writes, "I was on the road today giving a demo at a site where I couldn't get onto the network."

Rather than use this as a time to panic, use it to think about your end-users: The ones who rely on you, but are unable to access the internet.

Their daily life is being "unable to connect." It is a far larger problem than a few hours or days cut off from the internet. Look at it from their perspective.

  • What alternatives would you, as the "newly created end-user unable to connect," like as a back-up, workaround, alternative, or other solution?

Also, use these unexpected "no access allowed"-periods to think about end-users who rely on XML-information, but are cut off from the information grid.

  • How are you going to get your support to them?

The next time you have a disaster with your IT-connection, use it to your advantage. You end-user will ultimately be better off because of your fresh perspective on their continuing problem.
