Design tip: Eye tracking on blog templates

Quick tip: If you're making generic webpages or blog templates, make sure you know which language you're hoping to serve. Optimal in one can be a disaster in another.

  • RTL vs LTR

There were some eye tracking studies on Google.

Small problem. This only works on some languages, reading left to Right [LTR]. Another view on where users actually look: Right to left [RTL]

Advertising click through are already low at only 4-5 per thousand. You want that number to increase, not go to zero. ;-)

  • RTL Blog and Webpage Template Enterprise

Be nice if there was a way to auto-reconfirgure my blog template based on the language choice selected in the auto-translation tools with AltaVista.

Any prospect for Blogger and AltaVista to combine forces on this?

  • RTL Aggregator Design

Also, I was wondering whether this kind of analysis was done when designing a platform like Newsgator. I've noticed it is the same template in both English and French. Will Newsgator or other aggregators redesign their layout for Arabic, Armenian, Georgian, Hebrew, Indic, Thai and Vietnamese.
    Afghanistan -- Pashto
    Israel -- Hebrew
    Middle East -- Arabic
    Pakistan -- Urdu
According to Microsoft, only 3% of the Indian market reads RTL English, 40% read LTR with Hindi.

India is a big market. To think that a new Newsgator template might have to be configured to support the RTL reading direction.
